‘Where are you from?’
Simple question- right? Nah…not for me.
‘I grew up in Florida’ will always be my short answer. It houses my happiest childhood memories and is where my formative years were spent. I feel most at home here.
But, I was born in Tennessee and after I moved back to that beautiful state in 11th grade, I met my husband, went to college, got married and had our baby there.
So, the whole story is- I’m from Tennessee AND Florida- kinda like the mockingbird. The official bird of both states. A bird that symbolizes harmlessness and innocence. And one that mimics what it hears, yet sings its own beautiful tune- all of which are my goals with this blog.
And the actual artwork on this site- the beautiful bird? It was drawn by an old college friend, James, who has found much success with his talent- designing lots of the swag many of you purchase from your favorite country music concerts (and so much more).
An additional wonderful nod to my Tennessee roots, the mockingbird art was originally drawn for the Grand Ole Opry, but they passed on it. So, she now belongs to me. I’ll play second fiddle to the Grand Ole Opry anytime. 🎵
Thanks for coming back! Your support means so much. All of the wonderful notes of encouragement make me smile and boost my confidence, thus making me think maybe this is something I can do- and should do.
Let the music play…
A simplified version of the original mockingbird, with the Grand Ole Opry brand removed for publication legalities, as drawn by artist James Kelley.
